Hypnotherapy
What is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy aims to re-programme patterns of behaviour within the mind, enabling irrational fears, phobias and negative thoughts to be overcome. The patient is guided into a state of deep relaxation and they become focused on the therapist's voice. Positive suggestions are made by the therapist. These suggestions help people make positive changes within themselves.
How does it work?
Hypnotherapy works by altering our conscious state in a way so that the unconscious is made more alert. As you enter into an hypnotic state, your conscious mind which is analytical and argumentative, relaxes leaving the unconscious mind free for the therapist to work with. Your unconscious mind is open to suggestion and an instinctive force so you can successfully make the changes you want.
Is it safe?
Hypnotherapy is very safe. In fact most people naturally enter into a hypnotic state several times a day. for instance when you day dream or when you read a book and your imagination takes over. It is very like the moment before you go to sleep, you feel very comfortable, relaxed yet you still have full awareness of your surroundings. You do not go to sleep, so there is nothing to worry about not waking up. It is not possible to make anyone do anything against their will under hypnosis.
Hypnotherapy has been endorsed by the British Medical Association and has been used as a form of therapy since the 1800’s. Many people have reported positive and long lasting results.
What happens in a session?
Firstly an initial consultation takes place to assess what form of therapy would be best for you. All therapy is tailored completely for you the individual and the issues that you want to address. In a private room, you are helped to relax by the therapist and guided into a hypnotic state, this is when the therapy takes place. The hypnotherapist then brings you back to your original waking consciousness; often you are left feeling more alert and refreshed then before. A session can last anywhere between 30 – 90 mins depending on the issue. How many sessions will I need?
That depends on the person and on the issues being treated. Each person is different and some issues are dealt with quicker than others. There is no one treatment that fits all, so some people may only need one session where as others may feel they need a few more sessions.
